ATR‐FTIR Spectroscopy for Early Detection of Diabetic Kidney Disease

چکیده

Current screening methods for diabetic kidney disease (DKD), characterized by albumin excretion in urine, are expensive or only identify patients late stages. Hence, there is need a cost-effective, quick, and portable tool which identifies at DKD onset. Here we report that ultracentrifugation coupled with infrared spectroscopy machine learning can quantify low level microalbuminuria urine samples from cohort of (n=155) controls (n=22). Independent testing the indicated classification analysis discriminated between normo- micro/macroalbuminuric sensitivity >91 % specificity >99 %. Regression quantified concentration error values 17 44 mg/L microalbuminuric patients. Using 700 μL sample, this approach an earlier stage than urinary dipstick, whilst also yielding results cheaper faster to creatinine ratio.

Targeted glomerular angiopoietin-1 therapy for early diabetic kidney disease.

Vascular growth factors play an important role in maintaining the structure and integrity of the glomerular filtration barrier. In healthy adult glomeruli, the proendothelial survival factors vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A) and angiopoietin-1 are constitutively expressed in glomerular podocyte epithelia. We demonstrate that this milieu of vascular growth factors is altered in stre...

Non-albuminuric Diabetic Kidney Disease in Diabetic Patients: A Review

Introduction: The constantly increasing incidence of type 2 diabetes, probably due to obesity and sedentary life, has led to the increased incidence of macro- and microvascular diabetic complications such as nephropathy. Despite the prompt efforts to develop effective treatments for diabetes and slow the progression of its complications, it is still reported as the most common cause of chronic ...

Pitfalls of the urinary albumin creatinine ratio in detection of early diabetic kidney disease.

Diabetic Kidney Disease (DKD) is the leading cause of kidney disease world-wide, for which albuminuria is the currently accepted biomarker. Despite the increased use of glucose-lowering medications and renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) inhibitors, prevalence of DKD continues to rise in proportion to the prevalence of diabetes 1 . Development of chronic kidney disease in patients with ...
